These two characters from the play were punished for something that they were not responsible for, and have no evidence that they were truly guilty. Since in their time, people had no good knowledge of science of the way things happened, they had to blame something. What they believe was the cause of all of this is Witch craft. Believing that John and Rebecca were in all this madness. John Proctor was accused that he is a witch by Marry Warren; she explains that he is f the devils man and that he signs the devils book. Marry said to the Judge, Sir Danforth that she knows that John is a man of the devil. Dont touch me! Youre the devils ) Mary goes against John by telling the court that he is a witch and was forcing her to tell the court that the girls were lying. Since the incident the girls of the woods, they have the power to say what they want, making the people and the court believe that she is right and Proctor is wrong. Having no involvement with the devil, his life ends there. As stated in the article anyone who commits such a crime, death is the only answer. The last person who should be pardoned is Rebecca Nurse. She is also accused of being a witch, and that she is involved with witch craft. Its hard to think that so ious women be secretly a Devils bitch, after seventy year of such good ) Everyone in the village cant put it through their minds that such a prayer. ( good person like Rebecca is accused of doing and committing such horrid things. After so many years of prayers, and her being a very spiritual person. For someone like her how can she be accused? For the marvelous supernatural murder of Anne Putmans babies. ( ) Anne cant believe that god would allow for Rebeccas babies to survive, and hers not. So she claims that she had of must used some type of witch raft on her; which is the mysterious cause of death of Annes (her) children. Her own husband even questions her by saying that she reads books. During their time the only book they were allowed to read was the bible anything else including novels is of the devil. Reverend Hale believes its all a lie and he says hell do anything in his willing power to bring Rebecca home: before her execution. In each of the New 1, line 21) Annes Jealousy of Rebecca made her cause her life. While she couldnt accept the fact that she couldnt have one and Rebecca had multiple. Just like John she was the unlucky innocent person who took their life. Therefore, Rebecca and John were the unlucky scapegoat who were unfortunate and cost them their lives. John could have escaped his death if it wasnt for Marry to tell the truth to the court and not have escaped with her own death penalty. Due to Annes Jealousy Rebecca had a hard time trying to prove her innocence. It was hard to believe to the people that a good women like he is being accused for a crime like that. The most innocent man could have been the most hated man in Salem.
